October has officially crept in, and we are so ready for it. Between spooky shopping, dark romance, craft nights, book clubs, costumes, candy, and one very anticipated book release, we have a lot brewing this month.

So grab your coziest sweater, your favorite spooky read, and maybe a little courage… because October at Second Chance Reads is going to be a good one.

🔪 Friday Night Murder Club

We have a NEW book club joining the lineup!

Introducing Friday Night Murder Club, meeting every third Friday of the month.

And yes, the name is exactly as delightfully unhinged as it sounds.

Our first book is Mazywood by Tananarive Due All the Sinners Bleed meets My Sister, the Serial Killer. Honestly… what more convincing do you need? 📅 October 16th ⏰ 7 PM 📚 Mazywood by Tananarive Due No reservation required. Come for the murder. Stay for the discussion. 🔪

🌙 Romantasy Book Club — October 2nd | 7 PM

Our October Romantasy pick is The Poison Daughter by Sheila Masterson! A standalone dark romantasy featuring a woman with a deadly kiss, a little vigilante justice, and just a touch of vampires. Basically: romance, danger, questionable decisions… sounds like a Romantasy Book Club night to us. 🎟️ Reservation required. The next Romantasy Book Club pick will be Avalon Tower by C.N. Crawford . We will be meeting November 6th from 7-9 pm. The sign up is not up yet, but will be after October's date.

💔 Romance Book Club — October 9th | 7 PM

You asked for a book that would make you cry. Sheena listened. Our October pick is Wrecked by Bree L Mina. Come prepared for feelings. Lots of them. Emotional damage incoming. Tissues will be provided. The next Romance Book Club pick will be Locked In, Season 1 by Katelyn Taylor. Books will be available at the October meeting. The Meeting will be held November 13th from 7-9 PM

🍁🦞OG Book Club — October 23rd | 7–9 PM

Our OG Book Club is back for another night of good books, good conversation, and probably a few opinions. 😉

This month, we're heading all the way to Nova Scotia with The Spirit of Scatarie by Lesley Crewe.Books aren't in just yet, but will be when you meet September 25th for The Other Side of Now by Paige Harbison Set on remote Scatarie Island, this gorgeous work of historical fiction follows three friends whose lives become inextricably bound together—and the spirit who guides them. And it's Canadian?! 🍁 Eh, b’y! 📅 October 23rd ⏰ 7–9 PM 📚 The Spirit of Scatarie by Lesley Crewe No ticket required. Just bring yourself and your thoughts on the book!

And Then… Halloween! 🎃👻

October wouldn't be complete without a little Halloween magic!

We're kicking things off early with a special Kids’ Halloween Event on October 18th from 10 to 11 AM, featuring our favorite witch storyteller! 🧙♀️  Bring your little witches, wizards, ghosts, and goblins for spooky stories, fun kids' activities, and plenty of Halloween magic.

And, of course, we'll be joining the Downtown Association's Trick-or-Treating on Halloween! Stop by the store from 11am -4pm with your costumed kiddos to say hello, show off those costumes, and grab some candy from us. Date and time to be announced by the Downtown Association. 

Because books are wonderful, but Halloween candy is also a pretty compelling reason to leave the house.
